I like that Elizabeth doesn’t go crying “Waaahhh!” until the camp lady tells her that she will have to ask her mother for help. Elizabeth knows exactly what will happen then and it won’t be pretty.
It’s time like these I’m glad I had to wear my glasses full time. kinda hard as I got older and ended up in coke bottle lenses, but I ALWAYS had my glasses.
When I was Liz’s age back in the 80s, my glasses were over $500 a pair. You be your sweet bippy I would have thrown a fit if the teacher refused to let me look for them. It happened once, and mom demanded the school replace them (private school) because they did not make any effort to help me find them. Then there was the girl that broke a pair. That was another explosion. The other kids left my glasses alone after those two incidents.
The way Elizabeth’s mother overreacts to everything, combined with her high blood pressure, makes it hard for Elizabeth to tell her mother something. When Elly hears about the missing glasses, she is going to blast off. Tomorrow’s headlines will read:

I guess your Mom is going to have to put a name tag on your glasses for the future.

All the drawings I have seen of dinosaurs were without their glasses. I guess that tells the story.

They lost their hearing aids and didn’t hear the “Duck! A meteor is coming!” warnings.

For a little kid in this situation it feels like the end of the world.

Yes it did, cause they couldn’t “see” the signs of their impending demise.

That teacher doesn’t wear glasses, much less ones her parents paid for.

Lizzie’s having a panic attack about something as small as losing her glasses really reflects Elly’s parenting style.

Didn’t a crashing spaceship cause the dinosaurs to go extinct, or at least into hiding?

Smoking in the boy’s room is what killed off the dinosaurs.

The end of the World as she knows it. She needs those glasses. A giant meteor, a huge flush of methane and maybe some other calamity did them in.
