Im going to start something new today. No it’s not Comic Sins, No I am going to do a series called the Evolution Of Big Nate.
So I’m going to start at 1991. Nate is actually very tall and his hands are also very long. What started to happen in 1991? Well we got the introduction of Francis, Marty, Ellen, Mrs Godfrey and a bunch of other characters. In 1991, the jokes were more for Adults as you can see. In these strips, he used jokes for comedy unlike today’s comics where the last panel has someone saying a sarcastic thing or looking unamused.
Then came 1992 and 1993.
1992 gave us the first Big Nate collection called “Add more Babes,” and the artwork started to get better and in 1993 , it got even better. I think by 1993, the comics slowly started decreasing its use of adult jokes and sort of made its way to a kids demographic.
