    There’s British English, American English and Australian English. Most of the other English speakers usually go for British English.

    American English would have evolved in pretty much the same way regardless of how the American revolution turned out. Local variations in pronounciation and usage occur within each country as well as between countries. Despite its British origin, English itself evolved from Latin and other ancient languages, as did most European languages, influenced by those other languages through the ages.

    English is much more Germanic than Latin. The Romance languages – French, Italian, and Spanish – came from Latin.
