Oh, those sure were the days. Players’ portraits showing their stats with a complimentary sugary snack.

Back in the day, baseball cards would smell like metal from being used on little Pluggers’ bicycle tires.;-D

Yeah, the bubblegum smell lasted for several years. I would be a millionaire today, but my mom threw out all my baseball cards (’58 – ’68) when I left for college. Same with my comic books. I guess the cardboard boxes (2) in my closet took too much room.

No sirrie Bob. The REAL baseball cards smell like old tobacco. Later on they were packed with a piece of pink plastic, that they called gum. Dad has a story of when he went to Korea, he put his boxes of cards in the garage for safekeeping. Shortly before he came home, Gramps tore down the garage to build a guesthouse and you guessed it…

Actually, go back a bit farther, and real baseball cards smelled like tobacco.

Thought he was going to say: “These are not the droids I am looking for. I will go about my business”.

Why would the real baseball cards smell of bubblegum when the gum they were originally packaged with didn’t smell of bubblegum?
