Fred obviously is an adherent to the old idiom – Let sleeping dogs lie.
It did apparently belong to him anyway.
I was a timid child, and other kids often called me a “chicken.” My brother taught me to say, “Better a live chicken than a dead duck.” I was thrilled and used the saying all the time!
