The “Leave to the Beaver”, “Father knows best”, “era” was TV fantasy, not a reality that can be revisited in the present. Looking at reality is hard when what you regarded as a right or privilege turns out not to be and knowledge and skill become far more important than an accident of birth. Jobs that can be automated will be automated in a profit-driven capitalist society and new more advanced skills will be needed to stay gainfully employed. Economics more than anything else is displacing the finite fossil fuel energy sources with lower cost renewables. The problems of immigration and climate change will have to be dealt with as they can no longer be ignored and we need competent people in Congress, not know-nothing career politicians who only know how to delay and divert.
