On this day in history, April 18, 1836, Houston and his army arrive at Harrisburg, only to find it in total ruin. They continue their march east, following the south bank of Buffalo Bayou. Meanwhile, Santa Anna and his army arrive at the town of New Washington, a coastal town at the mouth of the San Jacinto River. New Washington today goes by the name of Morgan’s Point. He burns the town to the ground, but not before abducting a young woman named Emily West and forcing her to be his “traveling wife.” Emily is a free African-American of mixed race, with blond hair. She works in the employ of Col. James Morgan, for whom the town of Morgan’s Point was later named. She is engaged to be married to a musician whose name has been forgotten to history. After the war, Emily and the musician get married and he composes a song in her honor named, “The Yellow Rose of Texas.”

Good Sunny & Blustery morning, Vagabonds,

It’s supposed to get up to 66 today! (it was 54 yesterday). Nice.

We had two guest speakers at my meeting yesterday. PT specialists in cancer/chemotherapy treatments. Chemo causes the neuropathy in toes and fingers, and they also focused on lymph edema. I learned so much, and it was great seeing the PT team again. It inspired me to continue on doing all my exercises. I’ll lick these balance issues yet!

    xoxo Happy Trails

    Good morning, Vagabonds.

I guess I was wrong in my estimate yesterday. The preliminary quote came back from Lowe’s last night and the cost is comparable to the other quotes. I am a bit confused, though because although the price tag on the cabinet front said so much per lineal foot, the quote we got listed each individual cabinet and drawer rather than a lineal foot price. After we get our “final” quotes today, we will revisit Lowe’s and try to figure it out.

My RE agent gave me a recommendation for cabinet work and I called the number yesterday. Turns out it is the same company that is already meeting us this afternoon, so that’s a good sign.

I finally finished my US map cross-stitch yesterday. I added the years that Michael and I first visited each state together for the first time. We’ve visited 40 of the 50 so far (22 of them last summer alone). It’s been a challenge to figure out some of those years. We can remember the events, but not when. For instance, the first time we visited Maine we flew into Logan in Boston and then drove north to Portland. We can remember some of the things we did, but the key to the date was that we went geocaching with one of our nieces. I looked up the logs of our “finds” online and it was 2007.

Today’s forecast is for 87! It’s 60 at the moment. We’ll be spending most of the afternoon at the condo, so it looks like we’ll be turning on the AC over there.

    Everyone have a blessed day.

    Good morning Vagabonds

Drizzly day and a little breezy as well, the temp is near 40.

Already been out and about this morning and now I’m watching “Diagnosis Murder” on METV. This one has some of the younger members of the Van Dyke family in the guest cast.

May your pleasures be many, your troubles be few and catch you all tomorrow.

    Good afternoon Vagabonds.

Our weather here today is going the wrong way!! We started at 56 and have creept down to 52 as we head for 43. It is also raining, no complaints as I like rain, just wish it was a little warmer.

Tonight is family night. I let the grandkids pick the menu each week so at least I know they will eat. The 13 year old granddaughter is picky and the 15 year old grandson ensures that there are never any leftovers.

Well I need to start putting together my casserole and fresh veggie tray.

    Everyone have a wonderful day.
