My sister and I knew enough math to figure Mum wasn’t that young, but my grandmother told us she and Mum would get up to 35 and then started to go backwards to 29, up and down. She convinced us that only German women could do this, and she’d tell us the secret when we got older.
I could never understand why people are so touchy about their age. I’ve never been ashamed to admit mine (currently 62) or of my wrinkles. I’ve earned every wrinkle and white hair that I have and am proud of them.

Shame on you Herb, for lying, especially to a naive child like that.
