Wow… it makes me think about all the fun I have growing tomatoes…
all the plants I buy, the bags of soil (imagine, paying for dirt!! )…
the extra water, the fertiliser….
…. I’ve stopped buying cages and pots but they were an investment, too, over the years….
The gophers I’ve unwillingly fed (the N Cal version of squirrels) …
and the birds who like to peck one hole in a perfect tomato….
and the time I spend, planting weeding and watering.
I just can’t wait.
For the farmer’s market.
Seriously…. think some years I spend $35 on all that, and the weather gets dry or rainy, and I get 10 pounds of tomatoes all season, if I’m lucky.
But I go to the farmer’s market and think $3 a pound is too much to pay.
I’m thinking this may be the year I do that instead of planting any.
I used to get “Your Veggie Garden” Magazine. Now I just read it online.
I had a little 30 × 40 foot garden in Louisiana for about 15 years. Grew lots of beans, okra, tomatoes, and various greens. I even grew some cotton and tobacco just for the heck of it. The biggest problem was keeping worms off the broccoli.
Everybody knows there ain’t no cure for the Summertime Blues.
