The GOP hasn’t even SEEN the “Mainstream” since about 1968, and the First Reign of King Richard the Nix…

If that’s the Rio Grande, the elephant is grounded in a Mexican desert, maybe part of a caravan trying to enter our country illegally.

In any other 1st world country, mainstream Democrats would be considered Centrists or maybe even a bit right of center.

I say this country has two major political parties, the conservatives (Democrats) and the ultra right wing loons (Trumpublicans fka Republicans). Unfortunately the majority of the population runs mostly from moderately right to moderately left. It’ll be interesting to see how things are going to break down now that the more leftward contingent is trying to pull the Democrats back toward the left.

Here we go, one more time:

Bernie Sanders is an unreconstructed New Deal Democrat. He has not suggested one thing that FDR would not have approved of, or that Teddy Roosevelt suggested already in 1908.

Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez is a very visible person, and one who clearly terrifies the GOP because she is smart, capable, female, and brown (maybe mostly the latter two). Her recommendation for 70% tax rates ABOVE 10 million dollars income is considerably LESS than it was under Eisenhower and Kennedy, and their tax rates started at a lot lower income, too.

The Democratic Party is NOT left of the mainstream. Consistently, the proposals made by both Bernie Sanders AND AOC are supported by the majority of Americans.

What has happened is that the political dialogue has moved so far right that what we see on the media is John Birchers representing the “center.”
