My wife and niece are both police-phobic because of speeding tickets (in my wife’s case, highly theoretical). When they are visiting, I try to instill in my grand-nieces the idea that when they are in trouble, they can go to a policeman.
Being white, it is not lost on me that black parents teach their kids the opposite.
