On this day in history, 1836, General Jose de Urrea marched his prisoners to Goliad. The number of prisoners totaled somewhere between 425 and 445 men, including William Ward and James W. Fannin. Arriving at Goliad, Urrea imprisoned his charges in the Presidio La Bahia, which the Texians had earlier renamed Fort Defiance. Urrea begged Santa Anna to allow him to show leniency to the prisoners and awaited Santa Anna’s response. The prisoners believed they would be held only for a few weeks and released.
Predicted high of 34 today, a low of 15 for the overnight. This kind of temperature swing is needed for sap production.
With the sap being mostly water it is then boiled down till only the sweet stuff remains.
Then if you take some syrup and boil it down to a soft ball consistency, as you would with fudge. Then take the sugar and lay it on clean snow, it will harden in to strips of maple candy. (yum) This is known as sugaring off.
Sugaring is about the only good thing to come out of winter. Well that really ain’t true, winter is the reset button for nature, everything begins anew in Spring.
May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may you have a pleasant day.
Well, the snow storm petered out. Not even a flake. So much for accurate forecasting. Next snow forcast is for Wed. nite through Thursday morning. We’ll see. In the meantime, I’m enjoying the 48 degrees we’ve been having.
Thanks for the Maple Sugaring lesson, Mark. Sounds yummy! About the only thing I eat occasionally with maple on it is this maple bar from our favorite donut store. They use the real stuff, not imitation.
I went to court this morning for my traffic ticket. I got there about 7:15 and was in and out before 8:00. I got home at 8:30 to the astonishment of my husband. I had already paid the fine and gone to traffic school, so it was just a matter of a clerk updating the files so that the ticket was reduced from a traffic violation to a parking ticket with zero points on my record. She did tell me that I should have called and told them my intention to do traffic school before I did it. She said she would fix it anyway but to do it right next time. I said with a chuckle that I didn’t plan for there to be a next time.
We have an appointment this afternoon to visit the mobile home park. I’m a bit confused about the fees we would have to pay to the park, but I’m sure we can straighten that out with no problem.
Other that that, it’s a typical Monday and we’ll be having dinner with friends at a new restaurant called Hometown Eats.

Good afternoon Vagabonds.Glad to see that everyone is doing good today.
I’m not too bad, just a little bit low on energy.
Nice day with sunny skies and temp in upper 40’s.
Good for the whole week with higher temps.
Everyone have a good day.
