    A few notes:

    1. We have Brian Enjo, Gordon Mayes, Michael Patterson and another person who is completely in silhouette. Who will it be? Will be Lawrence? Will it be Darryl Smythe? OR will it be Martha? The tension builds.

    2. Elly is carrying a rag or a cleaning cloth in her hand and yet doesn’t seem to be cleaning anything when she walks in the room. That’s a clever trick. It makes it seem like she is busy working on something when in reality, it looks like she wanted the TV to herself.

    3. The boys leave, but they leave with the popcorn. Want to bet they walk next door to Lawrence’s house with the popcorn to keep watching that TV show?

Some of us read the cartoon and move to the next one. Others, using detective skills, look deeper for verbal nuances and hidden clues to the characters’ possible inner thought processes, motive, and a future outcome, expanding four panels into a whole chapter or potential TV series. But…it’s all part of our individual right to free speech, no matter how we approach it!

Well, the mom had her childhood. That makes it ok. And today with the online tv watching such as Netflix and Hulu and Amazon Prime TV, it’s so easy and addicting to binge-watch.

That’s what dvd’s are for, but a broadcast is a group activity.

This is like when my mom (RIP) used to punish me by removing my tv (we didn’t have cable then), then SHE would watch it in the kitchen!

TV has always been addicting. That is why outdoors is so alien to kids now a days. Besides, in many cities, out doors is where the danger lies. Best to watch Batman tend to it instead of facing it yourselves.

I’ve done that. We’ll be scanning through the channels and stumble across a show that’s been on for a half hour and get hooked for the second half.

If this was the Enjo house, we would see his dad shut off the TV and say “You doctor yet? Why you no doctor yet? I don’t want to hear any excuses, get to your homework!”

A parent could never get away with saying that today. Kids spend all their time staring at screens. They don’t know what outside is anymore. If they actually wanted to go outside, the parent would consider it too dangerous anyway. What’s more, today’s screens are portable so the kids could continue to watch them outside.

Thanx, howtheduck. You are so helpful. I never knew about Connie’s first husband, only the second one. FBOFW has always been one of my favorite comics.
