This reminds me of the Grace Livingston Hill novel “The Best Man”. FBI agent seeking impromptu cover joins a wedding party in place of what he thinks is the missing best man. Too late he discovers the groom is missing but the bad guys are still looking for him.. I won’t spoil any more.
