Read an article recently that some blogger asked his readers for the secret to a happy marriage. The overwhelming answer was communication. But after looking over the responses he found that communication was the advice from those who had either been married for a short time or divorced. For those who had been married for a long time their advice was overwhelmingly respect. Respect for your spouse’s opinions or way of doing things and not trying to change them. Just remember that there will be many things that you will not agree with but understanding that usually they don’t matter. I learned that very soon after our wedding and that was almost 45 years ago. A big part of that is remembering that your spouse is putting up with as much as you are. You can communicate all you want to and talk about all of your complaints but unless you are willing to do something about them there is no reason to talk about them.

Just like playing Cornerback in American football, or being a Closer in baseball.

That, and a healthy reminder that about 99.8% of everything you argue about as a couple doesn’t really matter.

Wife and I are going on “62”, yes “62.” I guess we have done something right.

And to agree with everything except ‘does this dress make my butt look big?’!
