After the steam stopped coming out of my ears, I nailed him. “If I patted you on the head and said ‘Oh, you poor little darkie, you were born stupid and you’ll never be anything but’, I’d get sued within an inch of my life, and rightly so. But YOU sit there and tell me the same thing and expect me to buy it?!” I gave everybody in the room – black and white – an obscure black to report on the next day. Hiram Revels, Absalom Jones, Bessie Coleman, Elijah McCoy, Charles Drew, James Lafayette, etc. Not a “give-away” in the bunch. Class the next day was very interesting.
I’ve been hearing about a “Juneteenth “ celebration with a trip back to Africa. Have you heard anything like that? Supposed to be like a re- introduction to Africa.
It was the 4 White Maritime Powers, the confluence of budding biological science, of white racism growing and Capitalism that formed much of the world today and the idea about “Whites are superior” and that there are “different races” of maybe humans. They weren’t sure. The first human biologists were white, Christian and capitalist. And it all worked together. Some people still think there are definite different “races” and that they are inferior to whites. Especially the Aryan or Nordic type. No real science there as we know much more now. Yet it still persists.
