When Clinto was President and we had those great times and in the early Bush years when things were still good here is the congress and senate break downs. Then things started sliding under Bush as you put it. Look at the split of Congress and Senate below and tell me what party had control during the “good” years and what party took control when things started sliding down hill. As you will notice the time when everything was great under Clinton it may seem weird but the Republicans controlled the House and Senate.

@WestText - Actually, if you look at it, when Bush Jr became president with his Republican majority, government spending blew up dramatically: giveaways to the Pharma industry with Medicare Part D and two tax cuts even McCain himself voted against due to how disproportionate they are; then 2 undocumented wars with invisible spending. In 2003, due to lack of regulation, Warren Buffett warned of “weapons of financial mass destruction” which would eventually obliterate the economy.
Taxes were still raised on the upper income earners under Clinton even more-so than the previous administration shortly before Bush removed them.

The rest… Well, we can always hope for somethink trickling down. After all, taxes didn’t go up (and iirc with the payroll taxes went down), so everything will just be fine and dandy.
the liberals believe that if you vote for smaller government and lower federal spending and lower tax rates, you to them are a “fascist”….but it does not compute….fascism is when the central government bureaucrats control private businesses as with the USSR.
and we are closer now than ever before….it is the underlying reason for the grass roots Tea Party voters.
someone with PC skill with a chart, help, please, by showing the IRS tax rates BEFORE and AFTER Reagan’s cuts. I think the top tier came to about 35% from 90% of income. And still, the top tier helped bring a “boom” that almost doubled the dollars paid in income taxes, because those with money felt freer to invest and earn!

Considering that militarism, corporatism and hierarchy are among the basic principles of fascism, I’m having a hard time imagining Obama as a fascist. He hasn’t been exactly forceful in getting his policy across, either.
