He was vehemently against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, he ran disgusting racist ads against Dukakis (WIllie Horton), he was way deep into the Iran-Contra scandal and lied about it and later pardoned everyone connected with it on his way out, he had been pro-choice but then did a 180 when he hooked up with Reagan, he helped usher in the far right lunacy of the GOP which took over with the election of trump, though he opposed trump in favor of his own son, Jeb Bush, of course. GHWB had his points, but a reality check may be needed in the middle of the accolades.
I remember him most for the unguarded expression of contempt that was caught by a camera one day. He, like his spouse with her comments about the people stuck in the Astrodome, had no respect at all for the rest of us.
It’s interesting, I receive both liberal and conservative comic cartoons in my daily inbox. The liberal ones are nothing but portraying Trump as a horrible, evil, baby, small, hateful doofus using things he never was even close in saying or doing. On the other hand, the conservative cartoons focus on situations rather than individual bashing.Sure, civility is dead. You guys killed it. I’m calling out your bluff.Bush and Bush Jr. were upstanding people, yet the left bashed Bush mercilessly. He took it and didn’t respond, but while that was the upstanding thing to do, it hurt the country. Trump will not lay down and take your cr@p. But don’t cry and say that he caused the death of civility. That was all you and your cronies for the past 15 years.

Willie Horton anyone? Look George Bush the elder wasn’t evil, but he wasn’t a saint and civil discourse died long before he did.
