    it’s just wrong to assume that just because a dog has a fur coat that he is completely protected from severe temperature drops .

    Some indoor dogs might need a little help in the cold weather. However, dogs that live outside are more acclimated to the cold so a walk would not require a sweater. My dogs were indoor dogs (large size) and would occasionally ask to go outside when there was a lot of snow on the ground and lie on the snow for hours before wanting to come back inside. Guess it all depends on the dog!

    I used to have a Cocker Spaniel and a Chihuahua. If the temperature of the house was more than 74, the Cocker was panting. If the temperature was below 76, the Chihuahua was shivering. I used to make the Chihuahua wear a sweater but as the Cocker got older, I started having him shaved.

    So only some fur coats do a good job of keeping the dog warm.
