The Food Court and Hank’s Cheep Hut had better be afraid, very afraid; it’s a jungle out there! Sinclair was the first real taste I’d had of that kind of writing, a distinctly American version of the literary realism other countries were producing: Dickens, Zola among others. Sinclair woke me up, and I’ve always been grateful! I salute you, Mr. Sinclair. You’ve certainly made an auspicious mark!

He looked dead-alive until the autopsy found missing spinal fluid. A triangle of punctures at the neck juncture and near the base of the spine. Odd didn’t begin to cover it. There was a press blackout. Then a blackout of me! Stonewalled everywhere down to the desk sergeant. Pissed me to no end. Now I am sure the hook of this story is the hink in whatever happened to kill that man. He found out before the press black out that most of his spinal fluid was sucked out. Sucked out!

Now the mofos think they can stop me? My grand uncle Carl Kolchak hit this wall a lot. In Las Vegas, Seattle, Chicago, Honolulu and New York. I won’t let him down by letting the press be muzzled over something not quiet normal. The truth will set you free they claim. So they keep truth in chains.

“Hink” from “hinky” for odd, bizarre, not right. Slang.
