I miss desk phone landlines. You could get a satisfying sound when you slammed ’em down on some jerk. They sounded good when ya hung up on some telemarketer too.
My husband and I left a voice message (ala George Costanza) where we actually were singing like in that episode where George is avoiding Alison’s phone call to break up with him: “Believe it or not, we aren’t at home…please leave a message at the beep…we must be out or we’d pick up the phone…where could we be? Believe it or not, we’re not HOME!” —-and one time we got a telemarketer who, after hearing that, starting going into his spiel, but after the first couple of words, stopped…and started cracking up! And left a message that said, “HAHAHAHA…You guys are GREAT!” He never bothered us again.

The new phones are just as big and clunky as those old cell phones. Impossible to hold without help and can’t fit them in most pockets.
