Lawrence O’Donnell went through a careful process of elimination, compared writing styles, other known statements, political history, outlook for political future (how much they had to risk) and what areas of political specifics in the op/ed matched the interests they had represented over the years, and came up with: Dan Coats, NSA chief. Of course, at this point it is all speculation, but after seeing his detailed analysis, I’m inclined to go with O’Donnell.
