Slaves are not employed, strictly speaking – as they are not paid for their labor.
On the other hand, as has been pointed out, if one is paid minimum wage, and it is not enough to cover basic shelter, food, and health care – then it’s in some ways worse than slavery.
The sharecropping system, which replaced slavery in the deep south (and in many ways mimicked the late 1800’s industrial system up north), was pretty horrible. Living every day deeper in debt, owing the landowner for every supply as well as rent, and paying off the debt, partially, with undervalued labor.

Minimum wage is slave labor if you work full time and can’t afford food shelter and health care.
Republicans want to lower the min wage and take away SSA and Medicare to pay for the 2 trillion they gave to rich people.
