Another quote: “When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.”
The American and Chinese leaders won’t be paying for this war. It will be the factory workers and consumers on both sides who will get hurt. In fact, the leadership will find ways to profit from this war, since they control both sides.
Meanwhile, the rest of us should all shout nationalistic slogans, since that will solve real world problems.
The issue is that trump is incapable of forethought and thinking things through. That’s because he’s quite a troubled soul with ADD. It’s really sad and, under normal circumstances I would feel badly for him…however, these aren’t normal circumstances and trump has spread a particularly nasty social virus into our society.
The Chinese did need to be confronted about their intellectual property thefts. The US government could have allocated much more resource to protecting American companies’ IP. The well-thought-out, multilateral TPP was supposed to have formed a bulwark against Chinese hegemony, with environmental, labor and IP protection, but it was another casualty of a social virus that impeded rational forethought and complex cortical thinking.
But the way trump is going about it is all emotion, all amygdala. No thinking. No planning. No collaboration with allies. (Unless we now count North Korea and Russia as allies. Yikes!)
I know there are many who denigrated the TPP. But it was a vastly better policy than the emotionally-driven, “all-id” all the time, sort of behavior we see from the poor pathetic shell of a man.
