The same goes for whales! I was on a cruise in Iceland and that’s is pretty much all we saw.

Same here most of the time with the Gray Whales.

Most of the time it’s a spout, and a bit of back. If you watch long enough you get to see some flukes as they dive.

Much less often you see a spy-hop, and even once in a great while, a breach.

I consider myself lucky that i have seen more than one breach.

We have spinner dolphins where I live and they’re big on airborne display. Same with the Humpback whales in early spring.

Sorry about your negative experiences. One has to be at the right place at the right time of the year to get some really great viewing. February – March at Laguna San Ignacio is when we have been able to watch gray whales UP CLOSE, friendly & curious – about us. We have scratched the itches on their skins & in the baleen; peered into their mouths – I have a photo of one of our group with his head in the mouth of a 40 ton, 40 foot long gray! Humpback whale watching off Cabo is excellent if you get the right boatman. As is true also for dolphin experiences in the wild – not in an enclosure.

I’ve seen hundreds of bottlenose dolphins jumping and playing in the Pacific.

Here, where I live at, I do occasionally see dolphins swimming and see more than their fin. But it’s only in the calmest of waters during the summer.
