I found a dead mouse in my basement once. I suspect it got in throught the dryer vent hole, and couldn’t find anything to eat, or a way back out. Needless to say, I didn’t tell my wife.
Mice are really cute, when they are out in a field or living confined in a cage and being clean. Mice are not cute when roaming across your butter, or raiding the larder for rice or beans.
