I am always wondering why my mother puts SO many pillows on chairs, and beds and things when they just get in the way. “They look nice”. I’m a girl and think they are a waste of space.
Hotels these days litter the beds with pillows of all sizes, for reasons I don’t understand. I usually stuff them all on the top shelf of the closet and let the maids find them after I check out.

In England (& probably elsewhere) pillows are for beds, cushions are for furniture.
