Pibgorn had its own regular crowd, many of whom seldom showed up elsewhere - and vice versa. Something tells me most who drop by here had little or nothing to do with what happened over there.
Of course, since it’s been so long since I’ve viewed the endless comments there, I could be wrong…
Interestingly enough, the proper Old Norse spelling is “Thorr” (actually, “Þorr”), not “Thor”.
The Pibgorn comments section turned into a chat room having little to do with the strip itself (that and people childishly competing to post the first comment of the day). There are other places for that. See here. Brooke McEldowney approved of the decision.
I’d rather read hundreds of ‘toons than hundreds of comments.
Maybe they could put something in the personalize-the-page section to allow a certain level of racy comments, but us genuses’d pro’ly have to pay more & y’all’d have to live with more banner ads.
The comments at Pibgorn went away because Mr. McEldowney (the comic artist behind Pibgorn and 9 Chickweed Lane) wanted them to go away. The short version is he prefers to have his work stand on its own, without commentary on the site. For the long version, see here. Note that before the comments went away, Pibgorn was the only strip on GoComics where the comments were separated from the art.

I still think cleated shoes would work better, but now we have a goalie for the hockey game - that barding makes him even bigger in the net

What does Þorr care? It’s not his holiday.
