My Dad used to tell me about Skippy, since it had log since stopped running when I was growing up- and he mentioned how highly regarded the art was. Crosby could do complex and intricate, and he could do simple- suggesting a lot with only a few pen-strokes. The choice to keep the fence in panel two so simple offsets the car in panel one- make sit really stand out. A lot of artists wouldn’t have made that choice, but it was the right one.
Left hand drive, flat steering wheel, that configuration… It’s probably a 1903 or 1904 Autocar. Even if it ran, it would have been considered basically worthless in 1930.
There were people who collected and restored antique cars even then, and that one looks to be in perfect condition. (Unless a gear fell off and is lying in the road under it….)
