A lot of people do not understand creative professions, especially the creative professions that occur at home. They don’t see the hours of labor involved in creating the idea and then converting it to paper (or other medium).
Bear in mind that he is only telling you HIS point of view. Which neglects to mention that Red drove an hour each way to work, to teach in the ghetto, to support him, and he could not be bothered to lift a finger to cook, clean or wash a scrap of clothing. And don’t forget teaching involves hours of labor BEYOND the 8 hours in the classroom.
