I do agree that women in Saudi Arabia don’t have some of their basic rights ,but that is due to strict local culture of that area and not to Islam.

I’m curious to see how Aseil Al-Shehail will fulfill this role for Saudi Arabia. (see my url links to her acceptance speech & another interview in yesterday’s ViewsMidEast cartoon) I’m a sceptic like everyone else. Saudi Arabia is a pretty restricted society overall and incredibly so for women. Does she have the influence to evoke reform for women within Saudi Arabia through the U.N. or is she a helpful stooge for the Saudi government who probably hope to improve their image somewhat as regards women?

Palestino, do you think we have no knowledge of what the books of Islam teach?

do you think we don’t have ex-Muslims talking and writing and explaining Islam to the West?

since Day One that religion gave the males total dominance, and females live or die at the whim of Shar’iah Law…..enforced by men.

no rights to marriage benefits, no rights to children, no rights to education or choice of husband….many in a position about equal to the family-owned cattle.

Rape victims receive “honor” executions…..while Men go free.

and that is just skimming the top of how Shar’iah Law shapes “culture”…..

^ Islam didn’t GAVE men total dominance, buddy. They already had it.

If you compare one book to another, the laws in the Quran are less strict than those in the Bible. It’s just that different people apply it.

To have right, women had to fight against…the christian right. But it waslong ago, last century.

It’s arabs and insane radicals that give Islam it’s bad name!…that and the so-called moderate muslims who allow the atrocities to happen under its religions name.

    ^disgusted,

1-May be you have some knowledge about Islam , but this knowledge is shallow.

2-You can’t build your knowledge from ex- muslim information because it is mostly distorted.Sharea’a law is to be enforced by the government and not by individuals (male or female)

3-Islam believes that male and female have different rules in the socity and they are equal in front of God. for example the mother must be respected three times as much as the father.

4-Divorced women has the custdy of their children until they reach the age maturation .

5-There is no text in Islam that forbids the education or work of women ( give me one example of the opposite if you have any).

6-Marriage can’t be inforced even by the fathers according to Islam because its built on the agreement of both sides.

7- Rape Assaultants of women or children are excuted .the victems should be protected and helped.(honor stories shouldn’t be linked to Islam because it’s not in it).

That is plenty of ignorance from your part, disgusted!

^Disgusted is a perfect example of what happens when people fear things instead of learning about them.
