Ted Mack " The Original Amateur Hour" and “The Gong Show” both used the old vaudeville catch ‘give ’em the hook’, for acts that stunk. These days all they get is a bad review in Rotten Tomatoes, which in itself is an homage to the days when bad acts got pelted with rotted fruit and vegetables.
