How about, like China, having roughly 1/5 of the world’s people? It is time to start worrying about countries who have population in the billions, instead of basing our foreign policy and wars on a nation with around 6 million people.
pavlov, apparently your racism is showing. India is not only the largest democracy on Earth (1.1 billion people - nearly four TIMES the US), it has strong links with the US and has the entrepreneurial and technological focus that we seem to be losing. The five permanent members are: China, the US, Russia, France, and the UK. I would welcome India, if only as a counterbalance to China and Russia!
I agree let India replace France or the UK both are no longer world powers. In fact France has no business even being on the council. The only reason they were put on was because at the end of WWII they were part of the major Allies that fought the Axis nations. The original members were the winning countries vs Germany and Japan. The original 5 were the Soviet Union, United Kingdom, France, the United States, and the Republic of China (now known as Taipa). The Peoples Republic of China (Red China) replaced the Republic of China back in the 1970’s. And most recently with the fall of the Soviet Union its seat went to the new Russian Federation. France and the U.K. have not been major powers since the end of WW2.
Hmmmm…on second thought, saying Gulf War 1 was a failure because Saddam was still in power at the end of it is like saying I failed to climb Mount Everest; I never tried.
Toppling Saddam was not an objective of that war, getting Iraqi armies out of Kuwait was. So in the end, it was a success.
Though a small one. Saddam was clearly the underdog against the US forces, unlike Hitler during WW2

^ Would that be Israel?
India is supposed to pass China in population in a few decades, I’m looking for the story.

Nobody makes it by himself, not even the US. The last major war you guys won, you didn’t win it alone.
India is an interesting ally. Don’t refure them out of either fear of the unknown or out of pride.

^ That would be WWII?
Lost Korea Lost Vietnam Lost Gulf War Lost Iraq Lost Afghanistan although we must wait a few years for the war to end.
I am against UNNECESSARY wars.

^ I count only Korea and Vietnam as major wars (lasted more than a year). Iraq and Afghanistan are still on.

@Rockngolfer
We lost the Gulf war? I was there, we won and withdrew. Please explain.
Oh yeah, and Korea was a draw, just ask the South Koreans.

^ Saddam was still in power after Gulf War 1
The UN Security Council is not mae of who is powerful now, but of who was powerful 65 years ago. The World needs an update.
