Hector blames television. Actually, a lot of people do, and have off and on since the 1950s as I recall – my mother used that as an excuse for not having one in the house at all. Which made ‘sneaking’ next door and watching theirs all the more delicious and fun. The same excuse was used for not buying me a set of “Hopalong Cassidy” cap pistols – but I found that a properly shaped tree branch was a viable (if not particularly satisfying) substitute. And I used to spend a quarter from my allowance for doing chores to watch Saturday morning matinees at the local theater where I’d watch my western heroes shoot bad guys and indians and “Aw, shucks, ma’am” the rescued women almost all day (yes, you could spend all day in the theater, in those days!). So even after years and years of all that, I don’t think I’ve ever felt the slightest desire to walk into a venue and start killing innocent people! To the best of my knowledge, neither have any of my acquaintances!I have never been so poor that I needed to hunt for food nor have I been atavistic enough to want to wontedly kill an animal so I do not even own a weapon.

Yesterday, a school shooting happened in Kentucky that killed two and left 18 others injured and we didn’t even blink.
Worse yet, it’s number 11 for the year so far.
