The only way to watch soaps is with the set tuned to a different channel. I utterly loathe the format; I simply can’t get personally invested in arbitrary highs and lows in the personal lives of utterly fictional characters. I’ve had several perfectly good, plot-driven series ruined for me when the writers started running short on plot and turned to random, inane events in the characters’ personal lives to pad out the air time. But that’s just me.
