Thankfully, California resisted the easy way out by turning him into an exalted cult martyr. Instead, by putting him in prison and keeping him there for the rest of his life, they turned him into a pitiful little man, which was exactly the right thing to do. Unfortunately, I earned a lot of Bad Karma every time I rejoiced when he was turned down for parole. I just know I’m going to pay for that bad karma.
