No joke: The commuter ferry network in Sydney recently asked the public to name some of the new boats in their fleet and unfortunately, “Ferry McFerryFace” was actually a popular submission.
England ran a popular vote to name a new polar research vessel. Boaty McBoatface won. I suspect this is a riff on that event.
