The first time I saw them was on The Green Hornet in two episodes where Kato used them. Against hunters and against a man using Praying Mantis style Gung Fu.

Numchucks, like a lot of other stuff, look incredibly cool on TV, but, like a lot of other stuff, are mostly useless in real life.
