Why weren’t most of those house-cleaning things done way before the cooking and table-setting started??? They knew they were having company and when the guests were arriving.
She does not expect him to sweep or wash dishes or paint the walls. They are just carrying on a conversation. Not every conversation has to be strictly literal.
