Went out after breakfast, came home long enough to eat lunch or take it to someone’s picnic table, came home for dinner then back out until it got dark. No ACs and plenty of parents or grandparents out and about in yards to keep an eye on all the kids. If you misbehaved, your parents heard about it from the neighbors.

I am glad I grew up in a town with less than 800 population. We knew just about all of the people by name and where they lived.
