@laughingkitty. Before my mom got sick and she could still communicate her wishes she said she did not want a funeral, wanted to be cremated, and did not want her picture in her obituary!! We complied with most of them. We put her picture in her obit, one where she was healthy, smiling and having a fun day with her girls, so the people that knew and loved her would remember her that way. Yesterday we had a get together with the four of us and my stepdad and his family. His brothers, sister in laws and his four children and grand children loved her too. We had a nice day remembering her, sharing funny stories about her, drinking wine and eating good food! She would have loved that!! One of the grandsons played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes, it echoed over the lake and we were all crying. She loved bagpipes and Amazing Grace. She didn’t want anyone to have to spend thousands of dollars on a funeral for her. Her cremation was $795. In Washington state if you are cremated within 24 hours of your death you do not have to be embalmed, a huge expense. Funerals are for the ones left behind and most people don’t have that kind of money laying around. I hope your sister passes peacefully and without pain. However if you establish a GoFundMe page I will happily donate as I did when Happyx3 was trying to buy his van. Peace be with you and your beloved sister.

It’s over. My sister, Martha, died peacefully at around 9:00 tonight. We knew yesterday that the end was near because she did not want to get out of bed at all. Martha has found peace with Jesus and an end to her pain. The family is at peace, knowing she is in a better place, but the pain of grief from losing her is a bit overwhelming right now.
