Joanie: As Lacey's dementia progressed, she befriended Alice, a homeless woman she thought was her long-dead sister Pearl... they got together for holidays in the park. Alice: Happy New Year, Ducks! Lacey: And to you, too, Pearl! And good riddance, 1929! Alice: 1929? Lacey: I just hope Mr. Hoover knows what he's doing. Alex: Wow... she experienced the Great Depression twice? Joanie: It's a rough disease.

Actually wndrwrthg, the Great Depression started as Hoover took office. He had nothing to do with its cause, like our present situation, it was a result of poor personal business practices and corporate mismanagement. He actually became a very respected diplomat, serving under Truman and Eisenhower. It will be more accurate to compare Hoover and Obama to see how similar situations can have different outcomes.

The world does NOT have Alzheimer’s disease. A lot of us are just stupid… and darned proud of it, apparently.

Yes, and FDR did also. I find it surprising that so many experts agree that much that FDR did only helped make the Great Depression worse, and then we turn around and say that Obama should do what FDR did: increase taxes, and spend our way out of the problem.
