A few fun things about this strip:

    1. First of all, it’s not the same car, if you compare it to the last time we saw it in the comic strip. It is no longer a T-top convertible. The car has lost its T on the top.

    2. Is it long shirt or a short shirt? The colourist does not seem to be able to decide where Elly’s shirt ends because there is disagreement between panels 3 and 8 and the rest of the panels in the strip.

    3. The muddy footprints. They are so close together that John must have the stride of a toddler. Plus there are so many of them, it implies he did many back-and-forth trips, but never over the same spot, possibly avoiding his prior footprints so he could make even more muddy footprints. That seems like the act of a man who knows his muddy footprints upset his wife and he wants as many as possible. Does he have a death wish?

    4. Elly is apparently unable to walk without her hands in her pockets. Maybe it’s her way of controlling her rage.

    5. Final panel, I have to say John uses a lot of stuff to wash and polish his car. There are bottles and things left on the ground and pools of water literally at every stage of working his way from the dirty rag pile (mysteriously kept in the linen closet with the clean towels) to the car and all the way down the driveway from the car.

Wasn’t it yellow? Where’s the week of strips where he spent the money to get it repainted?

When I was very young, my mother had a convertible Chevy Corvair. My older brother & I would play inside of it all the time.

I am not stooping to crawl in and out of something that low no matter how sporty it is. Pickup height is just fine with me.

Ever notice that a male bachelor pad is very messy but his car is pristine, while a single woman’s home is neat and orderly, but her car looks like it needs to be dumped out?

Reminds me of when I first graduated college and got a good job. I bought a new 1966 Pontiac GTO with a bid overpowered V8 engine! Boy was I proud of that car; I used to spend 3 hours a week washing it and polishing it. I was single and living in a single bed room apartment that I never cleaned.

I’m surprised no one commented on the obvious problem John has with priorities. Hollering at his kids not to touch his precious car. Lets them know what’s really important doesn’t it? Kids are more important than your d*mn car! Making a huge mess to wash that baby that you’ll expect your wife to clean up is about as selfish as you can get. If I were Elly I’d DEMAND that you sell that d*mn car! Family is more important!
