Strange that Akbari didn’t mention rails instead of roads, as those actually knit British India together as essentially one nation until 1937 (and three subsequent to 1947) instead of 500 small-to-big kingdoms.

Also, Akbari did not mention that he can be “trusted” to provide “labourers” for the proposed roads.

Crucified slaves? Ah, well, no omelet without a few broken eggs.

    For historical accuracy:

Romans did not always line their roads with crucified slaves–it was “only” used as a reprisal for slave revolts*. They did however kill a lot of slaves (through overwork) for those roads.

*see Colleen McCullough’s Fortune’s Favourites (1993) for the truth about Spartacani Rebellion.

prasrinivara-I am currently reading “The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” by Edward Gibbon, published beginning in 1776. Lots of good examples in there, also! (I know, just a little “light” reading!) BTW, for you fellow Christians out there, (especially we Baptists) in a lot of casesWE were the ones that were enslaved and crucified. Now we call it, and rightly so, martyrdom.

Schools,”transportation”, and infrastructure, you bet. “Modern roads”?– anyone looked at a topo map or aerial photos of most of Afghanistan? Afghans already have a history of lining their roads with “invading armies”, so maybe it is time to talk instead of threaten?

    To #1 redskin:

    Here are the historical facts:

Jews were crucified by the 10s of thousands at a time. Comparatively very few early Christians were.

Many Christians who were crucified were crucified because they WANTED to be like Jesus. They could have EASILY have avoided being crucified.

We have advanced beyond that level of barbarism. Christians don’t crucify people of other faiths… although for a few centuries, we DID tend to burn them at the stake if they refused to convert, and sometimes if they had money or property the king wanted…

…but in these enlightened days, we just make up stories about WMD’s and invade their country.

I wondered where the idea for the Burma Shave signs came from.
