Let’s go with a flat tax rate of 18-20% on ALL income, with a personal exemption of 10,000. A family of 4 would pay no income taxes on the first $40,000.

Herrweh. The complex tax laws are to got the congress people re-elected. That’s pretty much the whole shebang. The lobbyists write the laws, on both the right and left, with the right being generally ascendant in most cases because their lobbyists contribute more money. It’s just bribery, so I don’t know why people get upset. Legalized bribery, to be sure. We Americans ARE exceptional…we legalized vast corruption.

We look at other countries where corruption is endemic (e.g. Russia) and think ourselves ethically superior, which we are,mat least so far. Our system of corruption is formally institutionalized, with laws and regulations. Theirs is more like the mafia. That’s the big difference. With us you get regulations. In Russia, they are a tad more, shall we say, “insistent” with their management of corrupt political practices.

The faster he beats that shell, the slower the Do-nothing Congress will go. Trump has not worked with the Congress, and they will get nothing out of making him look good. So they will not.

If only we could find a way to incentivise Congress in a similar way.

    " …

One day a really rich old man with two sons died. In his will he said that he would give one of his sons all of his fortune. He gave each of his sons a horse and said they would compete in a horse race from Los Angeles to Sacramento, but the son whose horse came in second would get the money. So one day they started the race. After one whole day they had only ridden one mile. At night they decided they should stop at a hotel.

While they were booking in they told their problem to the wise old clerk, who made a suggestion. The next day the two brothers rode as fast as they could. What did the clerk suggest that they do?

    …"
