I can relate to this one. My neighbor had complained about a “critter” outside her apartment and the terminator man was coming in a few days.I got the critter to eat food I brought and the night before exterminator got there I set out a live- catch trap. I had caught it! It was a mouse, and I took it home. When I got home, I put the trap in a cage and opened it.The mouse got out of the cage as if it had no bars. I have not been able to catch it again, to take out side or put into a set cage. I am still feeding him but he has been breaking into what ever I don’t have sealed in metal or heavy plastic. That’s what I did today. Someday I will learn.I had wonderful pet rats for years and was missing them, but mice are more “I could get to know you if I want to” whereas a rat Pet is like “let me come play with you and you can tickle me and give me sritches and bring me food and I will adore you”

And that “mouse” (rat) will not want to risk its life in the forest; it will head back to town as quickly as its little legs will carry it!
