Republicans will get their way anyway. The Dems usually give in after their corporate donors remind them it’s more important to keep the corporate cash flowing than follow the will of their voters.
Trump did give a very nice speech about how great that bridge was going to be at no cost to you or me. He seemed very presidential as he described what a wonderful bridge it could be. Will he actually start the work on it?
