I didn’t get a cell phone until I was in my fifties! The only reason I DID get one was I was stuck in really bad traffic on the way home from work. Got home over an hour late and found my hubby in a total panic because I hadn’t been able to contact him! I got a really basic phone and still use it mostly for calling for help in emergencies or to let hubby know I’m going to be late. Usually turn it off when I get home at night, to save on the battery.
I turned off the notifications chime. It dinged for everything. Drove me crazy in one day. Most folk do not use nor need all of the absurd apps. A few apps plus the camera are great. I treat a smartphone as a tool, not a lifestyle.
Seems the only people commenting here today are those of us who (happily) have flip phones only. If it’s good enough for Leroy Jethro (NCIS) it’s good enough for me!
I got mine first cell phone when I moved, and there were technical problems with the phone company giving me a phone connection. Had no phone for a week. So I walked across the street to the T-mobile, and walked out 15 minutes later with two phones (one for me, one for my wife) for less than the cost of one land line. Haven’t had a land line since.

And why not? I lived those days myself without carrying a phone in my pocket…of course then, I was a kid.

Why do we still call it a “phone”? One thing I don’t do much with it is talk on it.

I use a flip phone also, maybe talk 1-2 times a week, sometimes not at a all. It is used as a phone only.

Fritzi’s so old she probably dated Alexander Graham Bell … or at least Don Ameche.

In Manhattan right now, they’re telling kids how they, the parents, walked five miles to school no matter what the weather was like.
