Being boss is good!

I recently witnessed a boss ask his receptionist for a certain date of a past event. Granted, this can be easily found on their own website. As a matter of fact, I could have brought it up on my cell phone right there. Of course, I was only a visitor so I didn’t do it but it was frustrating hearing his receptionist get buried under other work telling him, “I’ll get to it in a minute!” every 5 minutes. In the meantime, the boss is sitting in his office staring at his computer screen. 30 minutes later the receptionist finally had a chance to look up the date.

What can be worse is the boss who won’t delegate anything – the micro-manager who has to be looking over your shoulder telling you how to do it every five seconds.

Delegate: you do the work, we get the credit.

Dump: you do the work, I take any credit, you take any blame.
