Remember how many jobs jobs jobs bills the lying republicon congress came up with over the last 8 years? Zero. They wanted Obama to fail so Americans would vote for Putin’s favorite.

People think of demographic shifts in America, they usually think of the ethnic shift, but it is also the aging of the population. Aging population also increases the need for healthcare. Republicans are about to stomp all over healthcare and “reduce” regulations. This will continue the increase the cost of healthcare and further the cost to benefit ratio in the USA. Healthcare is a drag to the US economy, businesses and employees taking money out workers pockets and money that could be used for innovation. We pay more for less than other countries.

U.S. healthcare—growth engine or economic drag?

We’re witnessing entropy in the US government. The political parties, instead of cooperating with each other are exacerbating the effect and the effect can be seen between the parties as well as within. Policies are seemingly random and are of no real benefit to the middle class.

    .

We watch with frustration as other countries work for their citizens to deliver good quality, affordable healthcare and education and our Congress persists in caring for the corporations and political ideologies, ignoring evidence that our system is not serving the public, counting on low voter turnouts to sustain their obsessive compulsive ideologies.

The typical Gen Xer has only $29,100 in wealth, compared to the $65,200 that their parents had socked away at the same age, according to a new report from the Pew Economic Mobility Project. Wealth includes savings, retirement funds, homes and other investments.

    .

“They are on track to be the first in recent history to fall behind previous generations in terms of wealth accumulation, a key indicator of economic security and particularly retirement preparedness,” Diana Elliott, research manager, financial security and mobility, at Pew, said of this generation, born between 1965 and 1980. Researchers compared Gen Xers with their own parents.

    .

Only 36% of Gen Xers have exceeded their parents’ net worth. That’s especially telling since three-quarters of Gen Xers are taking home bigger paychecks than their parents did.

    .

Why are Gen Xers so much poorer? Debt, particularly student loans.

    .

The Molly Ringwald/Kurt Cobain generation have nearly six times the debt levels of their parents, primarily from college. And this debt hampered Gen X’s ability to accumulate wealth even two decades after they graduated.

    .

That’s not to say college isn’t worth it. Degree-holding Gen Xers make $25,000 a year more than their non-educated peers. They also have $26,000 more in home equity and $9,000 more in other wealth, Pew found.

Some of you people are so spiteful you’d gleefully watch the US crumble and die if it were during the time the opponent’s party was in power. That probably says a lot more about you than the ones you hate.

This is what happens when there are fewer unions and more “Right to work – for less” states.

But regardless of all that, the strip was about us boomers leaving the workforce. But, never fear, unemployment levels are low enough that it’s considered just about full employment. So, the strip is wrong. The boomers are gone, but they’ve been replaced by kids like you. Sadly, many of those kids are illegals, and they aren’t paying into the system. I’m sure that so-called “sanctuary cities” are proud to support people who are working for cash, pay no taxes, and will probably have to be supported in their old age, even though they didn’t pay a dime for the benefits they’ll receive.

As with the coal industry, those jobs were taken over by MACNINES. Coal of course also went to mountain top removal and fired 80% of human workers.

But a more viable response to this toon is the fact that the “unemployed in the labor force” aren’t still IN the labor force because they HAVE retired, gotten jobs that pay enough so they only NEED one job, or have gone back to school. That is the myth of how many have “given up” on seeking work.

Another explanation is that there are jobs out there that retirees have left and there are NOT enough qualified young people to fill them. Machinists, welders, Tool and die makers, millwrights, etc. Can’t fill these jobs with a Liberal arts degree. A lot of High School advisors should loose their jobs.

I really believe there is a disconnect between the youth\millennials & reality. My nephews are all in their late teens & early 20’s & only one has a job. The others say they’re looking but nobody’s hiring. I saw a help wanted sign & advised them- nada. Didn’t even pretend to check it out.I had my first job at 15 & I’ve been employed for the subsequent 33 years. I have a full time job but I haven’t had a raise in seven years so I went out & got a second job with very little effort.

The jobs are out there, but why get a job when mama, pop, granma & auntie provide for you?
